The workshop initially produced utilitarian items like watch crystals, but everything changed when Jean’s sons, Auguste and Antonin Daum, inherited the business. In 1891, Antonin established a specialized "art department" within the factory. The brothers began aggressively experimenting with acid-etching, wheel-carving, and multi-layered casingto create cameo glass. Daum famously rocketed to international acclaim at the**1900 Paris World Fair (Exposition Universelle)**, winning the coveted *Grand Prix*alongside their fierce local competitor, Émile Gallé. Together, they formed the *École de Nancy* (Nancy School), cementing the region as the global epicenter of the Art Nouveau movement. The "Paysage d'Hiver" (Winter Landscape) series represents the pinnacle of their painterly, atmospheric production. Due to the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the factorywas forced to close, effectively ending the production of these complex, labor-intensive hand-enameled pieces forever.Today, works from this era reside in major global institutions, including the [Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nancy.### Condition Report This vase is in **excellent antique condition**. * NO chips, NO cracks, and NO restorations.* The top rim is completely intact with its original fire-polished finish.* The interior well is clean and free of heavy sickness or calcium/water staining.* Enamel detailing remains remarkably
Because the Daum brothers pioneered entirely new techniques in multi-layered acid-etched glass and vitreous enameling, their pieces are considered masterworks of the Art Nouveau period.Notable Museums Exhibiting Daum Nancy Glass:
