One-of-a-kind decorative pillow made from an antique ecclesiastical vestment textile fragment, likely 19th-century French or Italian in origin. The front panel is hand-embroidered in gold and silver metallic bullion thread and sequins, depicting a pelican in her piety (a traditional Christian symbol of sacrifice and devotion) at the center of a radiating sunburst, set on ornate gold brocade galloon banding with a burgundy trim edge. The reverse is a rich burgundy velvet. The pillow is finished on all sides with mixed burgundy and gold silk tassel fringe.
Measures approximately 18\" x 22\", with a plump 5\" depth.
