Up for sale is a beautiful antique German language complete edition ("Gesamt-Ausgabe") of Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales ("Andersens Märchen"). This volume was published in the late 19th century (circa 1890s) by Druck und Verlag von Otto Hendel in Halle a. d. S., Germany.
Features a stunning, highly decorative graphic cover and a classic title page featuring the historic Otto Hendel owl-and-globe printer's mark. Text is printed in traditional German Fraktur script.
Condition:
- Cover & Spine: see photos. Good for its age.
- Hinge/Binding: Note that there is a vertical split/tear on the inner hinge edge of the main title page (see photos). Additionally, the first page is unbound, and a lot of the pages are very fragile in terms of binding.
- Pages: Light, uniform age-toning and mild foxing/spotting appropriate for a book of this age. Free of heavy writing or annotations.
An ideal addition for collectors of antique children's literature, fairy tales, German-language antiquarian books, or as a distinctive vintage decorative piece.
