Antique German Mignonette doll, 13.5 cm (5.3 in) tall.The doll has an antique German porcelain head marked “Made in Germany 16/0” and a restored composite body. Some missing parts of the body were reconstructed during restoration.The doll comes with a complete handmade trousseau consisting of 12 wardrobe pieces:• 4 dresses
• 5 headwear pieces
• 1 petticoat
• 1 romper
• 1 coat with hoodAll garments are handmade by me using vintage and antique fabrics, antique lace and antique ribbons.The collection also includes a small chair, necklace, two plates, a cup, a creamer, miniature keys, a small rocking horse and a vintage perfume bottle.The doll and her trousseau are presented in a handmade wooden wardrobe box measuring approximately 25 × 18 × 10 cm (9.8 × 7.1 × 3.9 in).The box features a decorated interior with a mirror and a vintage image on the lid.A Note from the ArtistSome time ago, while living in Germany, I acquired from an elderly lady a family box that had been kept by her family for many years. Her family had worked for a German doll factory that produced antique dolls.At that time, German doll production often involved different stages of work. Porcelain doll heads could be produced by a factory, while other parts, including the bodies, could be made separately by skilled home workers and later assembled into complete dolls.Inside this family box were several antique Mignonette heads together with surviving parts of their bodies, including little arms and legs.As an artist and restorer, I decided to give these old pieces a new life. I reconstruct and restore the bodies using traditional techniques, carefully replacing missing parts and creating a complete doll around each antique head.In this way, I feel that I am continuing a small part of the work that was once done by this family many years ago.For each doll, I create an individual wardrobe and a handmade wardrobe box. I use only antique and vintage fabrics, antique lace and vintage or antique ribbons, carefully selected for each doll.Several dolls will be created from the heads and surviving parts from this family box. Each finished creation will have its own little home, its own wardrobe, its own clothing and its own story.
