Stunning Hungarian Art Nouveau Zsolnay Eosin Lustre Vase — Circa 1910
A stunning Hungarian Art Nouveau art pottery vase, dating to approximately 1910, beautifully decorated in the distinctive Eosin lustre glazes associated with Zsolnay.
The vase has an exceptionally attractive silhouette, with a squat, wide rounded body raised on a narrow circular foot. The form rises into a slender, elegantly shaped neck terminating in a wide, rounded and gently pinched rim.
Adding to its Art Nouveau character are the graceful curled ribbon handles, applied to either side of the neck. The body features a distinctive ribbed pattern that extends upward through the vase, enhancing both its texture and sculptural quality.
The surface is richly decorated in deep Eosin green metallic lustre, displaying beautiful variations of color and a captivating golden iridescence as the light moves across the surface. The combination of the sculptural form, ribbon handles, ribbed decoration, and luminous metallic glaze creates a particularly striking example of Hungarian Art Nouveau design.
The underside bears printed Zsolnay Pécs mark, identifying the renowned Hungarian pottery manufacturer. The original form was produced in 1898, and is still in production today.
