Antique Hand-Forged Solid Brass Utility HookRibbed Octagonal Shaft • 9.25" Long • Victorian Era
An unusual and exceptionally well-crafted antique solid brass hanging hook measuring 9.25 inches overall. This piece features a beautifully hand-finished shaft with a full-length central ribs, an elegant flared collar, and an offset forged hook.
The upper mounting screw is permanently captured within the brass shank, with the surrounding brass peened over the base of the screw—a high-quality construction detail that indicates the screw was original to the piece rather than a later replacement. The hook is non-magnetic, confirming solid brass construction.
Its exact original purpose is uncertain, but it was clearly designed as a permanent wall or beam-mounted hanging hook. Similar examples were used in kitchens, pantries, workshops, stables, and around hearths for hanging utensils, tools, lanterns, tack, or fireplace accessories.

Construction Details
Unlike ordinary utility hooks, this example exhibits a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in later hardware. The long ribbed shaft adds both strength and visual appeal, while the screw is permanently retained by peening the brass around its base—a method used on quality hardware during the late 19th century.
The elegant proportions and forged construction suggest manufacture during the Victorian period, circa 1850–1890.
Whether displayed as architectural salvage, incorporated into a restoration, or added to a collection of antique brass hardware, this is a distinctive and uncommon piece that is sure to attract attention.
A wonderful example of 19th-century brass craftsmanship with beautiful form, honest patina, and endless decorative appeal.
