Handwoven wool rug or wall hanging, Central or Eastern European folk weaving, 1960s–70s. No maker\'s label is present.
Woven in thick wool on a cream ground, divided into a grid of fifteen panels by broad bands of mustard-yellow and dark brown. The dividing bands are worked in raised loop or bobble texture, formed during weaving rather than added later, and the same technique frames the outer border. Each panel carries a hand-applied floral motif in wool, alternating between a ring of orange, ochre and pink flowers with green leaves, and a smaller three-flower cluster. Both short ends finish in a knotted fringe of cream and brown wool.
About 130cm in length.
Condition: good for its age, with no holes, moth damage, staining or repairs found on inspection. There is light overall soiling and some yellowing to the cream ground consistent with age and use. A number of the raised bobbles have flattened slightly with wear. The fringe is complete on both ends. Colours remain strong.
