This antique Illinois pocket watch has been passed down through my family and is offered together with the vintage Swank chain with which it has been kept.
The Illinois movement is marked “Illinois Watch Co. Springfield,” “17 Jewels,” “Adjusted 4 Positions” and “Double Roller.” Movement serial number is 4,162,114.
The watch is housed in a Wadsworth Referee 20 Year gold-filled case. The exterior case back has attractive floral/foliate engraving surrounding an ornate script “N.” The case edge and bow are also decoratively engraved.
The Illinois-signed silver-tone dial has distinctive stylized Arabic numerals, blue-tone hands and a subsidiary seconds dial at 6.
Included is the long vintage Swank chain. The clip is marked “SWANK,” “PAT. PEND.” and “1/20 12K G.F.” The main chain measures approximately 17 inches from the clip. At the watch end is a small connector with an approximately 2-inch doubled chain section, along with a small rectangular tag/plaque.
The watch and chain are being sold together as one vintage ensemble. I do not claim that the Swank chain was originally sold with this particular Illinois watch.
IMPORTANT: The watch is NOT currently running.It is being sold as-is for repair/restoration. I have not attempted to diagnose or service the movement.
The watch, dial, case and chain show age-related wear, scratches, discoloration/patina and areas of finish wear. They have not been polished or restored by me. Please enlarge and examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
