Up for sale is an incredibly rare, authentic antique Indo-Islamic Dhokra betel nut box (Pandan), hand-cast in the form of a stylized peacock or mythical winged bird.This piece features a highly coveted 4-compartment fully nested configuration utilizing 3 independent hand-rolled pin-hinge mechanisms:
1. The double-lidded main wing body opens to a deep well meant for fresh betel leaves.
2. The front bird-head lifts to a dedicated well meant for chuna (lime paste).
3. The rear bird-tail lifts to reveal a hard-to-find dual-partitioned well with an completely intact original divider, designed to separate supari (betel nut slices) from aromatic spices.The sides of the box showcase beautiful folk art hand-sculpted wax-thread overlays including traditional "Nazar" (All-Seeing Eye) motifs and geometric diamond panels.Condition: Pristine antique condition with heavy, uncleaned dark oxidation patina. No structural cracks or breaks. All three hand-rolled hinges are solid and perfectly functional. The interior divider is completely intact. Complete with three loop-cast wheel feet.
