Antique Inkwell Patented 1866 w/ Porcelain Bowls & Brass Asian Motif Pen Holders For Sale

Antique Inkwell Patented 1866 w/ Porcelain Bowls & Brass Asian Motif Pen Holders Glass Dome

English or American Made?

Here is a nice looking inkwell set for your buying consideration. We see no makers mark or country made in the markings on it. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself.

Interesting inkwell here, have never come across another one like it. So, great piece for you collectors out there.

The ink pots are made of porcelain. Each of the white porcelain pot bowls (under metal access and glass dome) looks to be intact. Would guess this inkwell is English or American made with the June 1866 patent marks. There are no maker marks on the inkwell. Most of the other countries in the world were not recognizing patents at that period of time.

What is really interesting with this inkwell is that the clear glass component appears to be the main well for the ink, and then gravity feeds the ink into the front pewter or other metal component with the hinged top on it. Appears the main part of the front metal unit was patented in June 1866 and then the hinged front has a November 1866 patent date on it. The hinged top is securely attached to the rest of the inkwell. A small ding or chip to the front of it. The clear glass dome that is the ink reservoir is fixed to the body of the inkwell. No chips or cracks to the glass dome.

The inkwell has a brass base. There is then an Asian motif pen holder built into the top of the inkwell that will hold 3 pens. The base of the inkwell is filled with some heavy white material, may have been a felt over that at one time that is no longer there.at is no longer there, may have been a tray for pens.

The inkwell is 5-1/8\" wide and across, by 5-5/16\" tall. The glass dome on the inkwell is 2.25\" across, by 1-7/8\" tall. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
