Beautiful Japanese porcelain covered rice bowl decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with hand-painted stylized floral and foliate designs arranged in panels.
The underside bears a small hand-painted blue character/artist or kiln mark. The exact maker has not been identified.
The porcelain, decoration, foot construction and form are consistent with Japanese Arita/Hizen sometsuke ware. Believed to date from the late 19th to early 20th century, but the exact age and maker are unknown.
Includes the original fitted porcelain lid.
