Antique Kralik Bohemian Iridescent Tortoiseshell Art Glass Lidded Compote – 8\"
Beautiful antique Bohemian art glass lidded compote attributed to Wilhelm Kralik Söhne, dating to the early 20th century.
This striking piece features a rich tortoiseshell-style glass décor in warm honey amber with irregular deep burgundy, reddish-brown, and darker mottled inclusions throughout. The exterior has a highly iridescent surface that changes dramatically depending on the lighting and viewing angle. In softer or indirect light, the piece reads primarily as warm amber and burgundy, while brighter and more direct light reveals brilliant flashes of violet, magenta, green, turquoise, and gold.
The difference is particularly noticeable with the lid removed. The interior of the bowl reveals the underlying translucent amber and tortoiseshell glass more clearly, while the exterior displays the vivid rainbow iridescence. The photographs were intentionally taken under varying lighting conditions to demonstrate this beautiful color-shifting effect.
The vessel has an elegant footed bowl form with a coordinating tall domed lid terminating in an elongated amber glass finial. The matching tortoiseshell decoration continues throughout the bowl, pedestal base, and lid, creating a particularly dramatic display when assembled.
Measurements: Approximately 8\" high with the lid in place × 4½\" at the widest point. The bowl opening measures approximately 4½\" in diameter, and the pedestal base measures approximately 3¼\" in diameter.
Condition: Very good antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear. There are visible fine scratches and surface marks to portions of the iridescent finish, which become particularly apparent under strong direct lighting. No major damage is evident in the photographs provided. Please review all photos carefully for the best representation of condition, surface, color, and details.
