Antique Large Carved Wood Cherub Roundel / Architectural Medallion
Offered is an impressive antique carved wooden roundel featuring three winged cherub figures emerging from clouds in high relief. This substantial architectural piece measures approximately 38 inches in diameter and is exceptionally heavy, constructed from multiple wood planks with an iron band around the perimeter.
The carving displays significant age, beautiful craftsmanship, and wonderful decorative presence. Visible shrinkage cracks and age-related wear are present throughout, consistent with a large antique wood carving. The piece remains solid and stable despite the age cracks.
The exact origin is unknown, but it appears to have been part of a larger architectural or ecclesiastical installation, possibly from a church, altar, organ case, canopy, or other monumental decorative structure.
