A rather charming late 18th century candle stool, displaying wonderful character, a rich patina, and a fascinating array of early vernacular markings.The top and sides are punctuated by historic shrinkage splits, deep oxidisation lines, minor impact dints, and wonderful rounding to the edges, all telling the story of a long domestic life.Engraved into the outer edge are some interesting timber marks, some of which look a little similar to Marian marks… Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. It has, I think, had a replacement leg fitted at some stage. It has wobbly legs, but this is through shrinkage of the wood and are not in danger of coming out anytime soon.
