Beautiful matched set of two antique Meissen porcelain demitasse cups with coordinating saucers, decorated in the celebrated cobalt-blue Onion Pattern, or Zwiebelmuster.Each petite cup has an elegant scalloped rim, molded body and curved handle. The matching saucers repeat the flowing floral and botanical design in rich underglaze blue. The undersides display blue crossed-swords marks, with additional small painted marks visible on several pieces.

Meissen introduced its famous Onion Pattern in 1739, drawing inspiration from East Asian porcelain decoration. The stylized “onions” were originally interpretations of pomegranates and other botanical forms. The pattern has remained one of Meissen’s best-known designs for nearly three centuries.
These have been handed down for generations, was obtained from a German family in the Denver area downsizing their possessions. Still in incredible condition.
