AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY MEISSEN PORCELAIN POTPOURRI URN
Up for your consideration is a magnificent, guaranteed authentic 19th-century porcelain potpourri urn (covered censer) manufactured by the world-renowned Meissen Porzellan-Manufaktur in Germany. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a premium piece of historic European hard-paste porcelain.
DESIGN & DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful form features a continuous, masterfully hand-painted narrative scene encircling the globular porcelain body. One side showcases a highly detailed courtly romantic park scene with elegantly dressed figures in the style of Watteau/Fragonard, while the alternating sides display classical maritime and pastoral landscapes.
The neck features ornate pierced circular vent holes designed to release fragrance. The body is permanently mounted upon a spectacular porcelain tripod base featuring three beautifully molded, heavily gilded winged lions (gryphons) tapering down to detailed lion\'s paw feet.
MARKINGS:
The underside of the base features the authentic underglaze blue Meissen crossed swords mark. No cancellation marks are present.
CONDITION REPORT:
- The external hand-painted scenic panels, heavy factory gilding, and structural body are in near-pristine antique condition with virtually no visible wear or color rubbing. The paint is exceptionally bright.
- The delicate winged lion legs, paw feet, and lid finial are fully intact with no breaks, cracks, or prior professional restorations.
- NOTE: There is one very small, minor chip located on the inner seating rim (flange) of the lid. This is entirely hidden from view when the lid is placed on the urn and does not impact display value or external shelf appeal. Please see photos for close-up details.
