This pair ofantique dollhouse miniature porcelain Whippetsor greyhounds is a charming example of mid-to-late 19th-century Victorian fireplace decorations, modeled directly after the iconic full-sizedEnglish Staffordshire recumbent greyhounds. Hand-painted with warm tan bodies and molded on green grass bases accented with gold-gilded bands, this true mirrored pair was designed to sit at opposite ends of a mantelpiece, facing inward. No maker markings that I can see and one figure has unfortunatelylost its pointed porcelain nose. Despite the damage, they remain highly desirable as a scarce, authentic matching set that perfectly fits the scale and period of the Evans & Cartwright fireplace that I have listed separately.
