Formed in Tokyo in 1876 by Baron Ichizaemon Morimura, the firm originally focused on exporting traditional Japanese art wares to New York. By opening their state-of-the-art porcelain factory in Nagoya in 1904, they mastered the creation of brilliant white, European-grade hard-paste porcelain. Wares stamped with the iconic green\"M-in-Wreath\"mark between 1911 and 1921 represent the pinnacle of early Japanese export luxury, celebrated worldwide for their lavish hand-painted detail work, rich gilding, and stylized cross-cultural motifs.
