Description: This graceful Japanese bird-and-flower painting (Kachō-ga) was created by Sanpo Mochizuki (望月山畝), an accomplished Nihonga painter active primarily during the Meiji and Taishō periods who specialized in refined naturalistic painting. Titled "Sakura Sekirei-zu (桜鶺鴒図)" (Cherry Blossoms and Wagtail), the artwork captures the vibrant essence of spring along a pristine mountain stream. Delicate branches of wild mountain cherry blossoms (Yamazakura) sway gently in full bloom, accompanied by emerging foliage and red blossoms near the rocky bank. Perched attentively upon a mossy river rock is a solitary Japanese wagtail (Sekirei), poised by the clear running water. In Japanese cultural tradition, cherry blossoms (Sakura) represent the transient elegance of nature and renewal, while the wagtail holds special status in Japanese mythology as an auspicious symbol of marital harmony and prosperity. Painted with meticulous fine-line detail, soft ink gradations, and delicate mineral pigments on silk, this hanging scroll brings a peaceful and uplifting atmosphere of springtime renewal to a tea room, study alcove, or contemporary interior wall. The lower right bears the artist's signature "山畝 (Sanpo)" alongside an authentic red seal stamp.

Size: Approx. 21.1" x 78.7" (53.5 x 200.0 cm) (Overall), Approx. 16.3" x 48.4" (41.5 x 123.0 cm) (Work) (Width x Height).
