Antique Stanley Bailey Type 4 Jack Plane – Early Bailey – Pat. 1876Very nice early Stanley Bailey jack plane, Type 4, dating to the early Bailey/Stanley production period.This is a genuinely attractive example with the early features collectors look for. The brass adjustment wheel carries the early patent marking, and the plane retains its early-style frog, lever cap, chip-breaker, tote and front knob. The iron itself is of the later type 6 vintage, indicating early use and replacement of the original.The plane has been carefully cleaned and preserved while retaining its antique character and patina. The sole and sides present very nicely, and the rosewood tote and knob show their age without having been made to look artificially new. We did put a new edge on the iron but otherwise did no further modifications to the iron itself, or the plane in its entirety; preserving its authenticity. Condition: Very good antique condition for its age. Normal wear, patina, scratches and age-related marks are present. Free of any cracks or significant damages that so often have occurred on types of these early vintages. Please examine all photos closely, as they are an important part of the description.
