Antique Sterling Silver Natural Baltic Amber Pill Trinket Box Poland 1920s For Sale

This is a vintage sterling silver trinket box featuring a large Baltic amber stone inset into its hinged lid. Inclusions: The circular, reflective disk-shaped patterns visible inside the translucent cognac amber are known as "sun sparkles”.

These occur naturally or are enhanced during clarifying heat treatments when microscopic gas bubbles inside ancient tree resin rupture under heat and pressure.

The body is made from silver (frequently 925 sterling silver or continental European silver standards) which has developed a characteristic dark, aged patina. Boxes of this style combining heavy silver metalwork with prominent polished amber are traditionally crafted in regions historic to the amber trade, most notably Baltic countries like Poland (particularly Gdańsk) and Germany.
