A scarce and collectible early Ersari Turkmen jollar wedding trapping for use on a camel\'s back during awedding ceremony.
This early hand woven textile was probably made by a nomadic Turkmen woman to decorate the back of a camel during a wedding ceremony in the region of northern Afghanistan. As in this example, jollars usually had a long fringe running along the lower edge. It uses all vegetable dyes and combines wool and goat hair. After the wedding, such jollars were frequently converted for storage inside a tent by the addition of a backing fabric, though this is not the case with our example. It has survived remarkably well over time and would make a wonderful wall hanging or a floor accent in a lightly traveled part of the home.
