Pair of original antique Victorian polychrome cast iron furniture ends with two original twisted iron stretcher rods for a low ottoman or parlor bench, late 19th century. Double-sided castings: grotesque lion / mask face on one side, shell and palmette on the other. Open scrollwork, twisted columns, rope-twist details.Original faded polychrome painted finish: black ground with dark green on the columns, copper-bronze on the bud finials and lion\'s eyes, and remnants of gold gilt on and above the shell. Paint is quite worn and faded consistent with age. Top rails pierced for a wooden seat or top. Scrolled feet.
Each end measures approximately 15\" high x 10\" wide. Top seat rail with a slotted cast mounting lug for attaching a wooden seat or top. The lug is approximately 2\" wide; the iron sides are about ¾\" thick overall. Twisted stretchers are 13 3/4\" long with tapped ends. Four pieces total. NO SCREWS included, just the four iron pieces. Buyer will have to find machine screws the correct size to assemble it. Heavy solid cast iron. No maker’s mark found.
From a long-held family antiques collection. Excellent condition for age — no cracks or breaks noted, old paint and gilt wear consistent with age. These are original 19th-century castings, not modern reproductions.
