Up for sale is a remarkably preserved Authentic 1800’s high Victorian cast iron door knocker featuring the iconic “Hand of Fatima” (ladies hand) design clutching a sphere, complete with its original matching square strike plate. Providence & Lore: This piece was aquired directly from the estate of a historic fortune tellers home. The downward facing hand design (traditionally known as the Hand of Fatima was heavily favored by late 19th century spiritualists and mediums to symbolize hospitality while spiritually protecting the household entry from negative energy and the “evil eye”. Historical Authenticity: this is a guaranteed 19th century Antique, not smooth modern reproduction. It features all the defining hallmarks of early foundry work. Hand hammered hinge: the wrist connection is secured by a crude hand-peened iron rivet pin typical of the 19th century blacksmith assembly. Sand Cast texturing: the reverse hollow reveals a rough pebbled sand-mold texture, complete with the original wave-like match lines and minor manual casting inclusions. Natural Patina: Features a stunning, untouched deep blackish-brown finish on the front, with genuine, deep rust-orange oxidation nesting safely inside the untreated reverse hollows. Condition: Excellent Antique Condition. The heavy hinge swings smoothly and functions perfectly. The iron is structualy rock solid. No cracks,repairs, or thinning threads in the rear mounting block remain deep and stable.
