Antique Victorian Martin, Hall & Co Sheffield Silver Plated Bon Bon Basket.
The basket has an elegant faceted and scalloped form, raised on four decorative feet and fitted with a movable swing handle. The shaped rim, geometric body and traditional Victorian proportions give the piece considerable decorative character.
The underside is clearly marked MH & Co together with EPGS, identifying the piece as Electro Plated German Silver produced by Martin, Hall & Co of Sheffield.
Martin, Hall & Co were an important Sheffield manufacturer of both silver and high-quality electroplated wares during the Victorian period. This example dates stylistically and by its marking system to the late 19th century, approximately c.1870–1895.
It would make an attractive display piece, bon bon or sweet dish, jewellery dish, table centrepiece or addition to a collection of Victorian Sheffield silver plate.
Condition
Good antique condition overall with age-related surface marks, tarnishing and wear to the silver plating, particularly around raised edges and areas that naturally receive handling.
There are no obvious major structural breaks visible.
The aged surface and patina have been retained rather than aggressively polished, preserving the character of the piece.
Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the condition, construction and maker\'s marks in detail.
