Antique romantic sailor sweetheart postcard from around the 1910s. A young sailor in a white cap and a middy blouse with a striped collar appears in the moonlit sky, looking down at a dark-haired woman in a white gown. She holds an armful of pink wildflowers and stands in a meadow by a lake. The verse reads \"Tho far away yet ever near in thought,\" and the front is also lettered \"For Auld Lang Syne.\" The front has a textured surface with raised white lettering, printed in soft tinted colors of moonlight blue, meadow green and rose pink. Design number 685 is printed in the lower right corner of the image.
The back is divided and printed in green: \"POST CARD,\" \"For Correspondence,\" \"For Address Only\" and a \"Place Postage Stamp Here\" box. The left edge has the series line \"No. 685 Sailor Thought of You—6 designs,\" so this card is one of six designs in the series. It has never been mailed or postmarked, and the only writing is one handwritten word, \"better,\" in the correspondence area.
This is a nice piece of early 20th-century naval sweetheart ephemera for collectors of military, Navy, romance and greeting postcards.
Measures approximately 3.4\" x 5.3\".
Condition:Good antique condition for its age. The front colors are bright and the image is clean, with a small faint spot near the upper right edge. Corners and edges show light softening and wear from handling. The back has mild age toning and some light foxing, plus the one handwritten word noted above. No creases, tears or pinholes observed.
