Copyright D&JR 1906A substantial French figural sculpture after Auguste Moreau’s Cet âge est sans pitié, measuring approximately 21.5 inches (54.6 cm) high and weighing approximately 19 lb. 5 oz.The sculpture bears the molded “Aug. Moreau” signature and “Copyright By D&JR 1906” inscription, together with a French manufacture seal on the base. Comparable examples of this model are documented in patinated spelter/antimony, and the sculpture is presented here as patinated spelter based upon those documented examples.The surface retains an attractive, naturally aged bronze-toned patina with areas of oxidation, color variation, rubbing and finish loss consistent with age.ConditionThe sculpture is in antique condition and exhibits evidence of historic restoration. Most notably, there is a visible older repair/restoration to the child’s eye. The projecting feather/detail originally held by the child is absent, and the hand appears to have undergone an older repair/reworking in this area.The underside and base exhibit additional age-related surface wear, scratches and areas of finish loss, all photographed.No title plaque is present. Examination of the base reveals no apparent mounting holes, attachment scars, ghosting or other clear physical evidence that a plaque was previously affixed to this particular example.No attempt has been made by the current owner to repaint, polish, repair or otherwise restore the sculpture.
