John Ball (1911-1988) was a successful novelist and journalist, who remains most well known his ground-breaking novel In the Heat of the Night (1965), which won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel from the Mystery Writers of America and was adapted into the acclaimed 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. It introduced Virgil Tibbs, one of the most important detective characters of the 20th century.
Ngaio Marsh and John Ball clearly knew each other well, likely meeting in various circles including through The Mystery Writers of America where she was awarded the Grand Master prize. John Ball also visited Ngaio Marsh at her home in New Zealand and wrote an article about her, titled A Visit With Dame Ngaio Marsh, which was published in the July 1981 Mystery magazine. This book is from my own personal collection. I am reducing some of the collection including Agatha Christie duplicates and some of my other author's for which I have more books than I really have room for or to fully enjoy. This book needs a new home who can really appreciate it.
