A 5.5x3.5" vintage RPPC photo postcard from the estate of a vintage automobile postcard collector. This was part of a huge collection of antique postcards.
Photo Overview
A well-composed real photo postcard from 1908 showing a distinguished couple seated in an early brass-era automobile parked on a dirt street in front of a modest gable-roofed cottage with a wide front porch and turned-baluster railings. The gentleman wears a flat cap and holds the tiller-style steering while the woman beside him is dressed in a fine coat and elaborate feathered hat. A small child in a white dress stands at the picket fence gate, and a spotted terrier poses in the foreground beside the car\'s front wheel.
The vehicle appears to be an early high-wheeler runabout of the 1907-1909 period, featuring wooden artillery-spoke wheels, a front-mounted brass acetylene headlamp and cowl lamps, an exposed chain or shaft drive, and open bench seating with no top or windshield. The sepia-toned scene captures small-town American life at the very dawn of the automobile age, with clapboard houses, wooden picket fences, and shade trees framing the moment. The AZO stamp box and December 1908 dated message on the reverse confirm this as a genuine period photograph.
