Description: Large Pre-Columbian Calima Frog effigy alcarraza. This vessel has a dynamic form that is accentuated with a knobbled texture and accentuated with incised decoration. This piece has a highly burnished surface, with a vibrant coloring that is speckled with black mineral deposits.
Condition: The piece is largely intact, though the head has been skillfully re-attached. There are a few stress cracks (which appear stable) and displays a level of surface deterioration that is consistent with its great age.
Provenance: From the Collection of Dr. Joseph Nader of Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA; Dr. Nader was born and raised in Columbia and moved to the U.S. in the 1960s.
