Description
For sale is a Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar 80mm f/2.8 lens in M42 screw mount, a classic vintage German optic known for its solid build quality, smooth rendering, and beautiful portrait character.
This is a nice user lens for film or digital photography, but please read the condition details carefully.
Condition
The lens is functional, with some age-related issues as noted below.
Glass: No scratches that I can see. However, there is fungus inside the lens, visible when inspecting the glass with a strong flashlight. The lens does not pass the flashlight test as clean glass. Surprisingly, in actual use I have not noticed any obvious effect from the fungus in the photographs — pictures still look very nice.
Focus ring: The focusing ring is tight/stiff and requires some force to turn. It is usable, but definitely not as smooth as it should be and may benefit from cleaning and lubrication/service.
Aperture ring: Turns as it should.
Aperture blades: Clean and dry, open and close properly.
Mount/threads: M42 threads are clean and mount securely.
Cosmetics: Normal signs of age and use for a vintage lens. Please review all photos carefully for the actual cosmetic condition.
