This is a Kuba Pwoom Itok mask from the Kasai/Sankuru Rivers region of what was then Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). It is 'museum quality' with cowry shells, feathers, beads, pigments and burlap backing. It appears to have been used in ceremony. The feather and burlap head covering articulates, so the wood mask is about 11" and when extended with feathers it is about 16".
