ABOUT THE PITEADO TRADITION
Piteado is one of Mexico\'s most revered folk art traditions, with its capitalin Jalisco. The thread itself — called \"pita\" — is a natural fiber painstakinglyextracted from the leaves of the maguey (agave) plant, the same plant thatgives the world tequila and mezcal. Each strand is hand-twisted, then drawnthrough pre-carved channels in vegetable-tanned leather using nothing more thana needle, the artisan\'s hands, and decades of inherited skill.A single belt like this one represents 40 to 80 hours of work by a master wholikely learned the craft from his father, who learned it from his. There is nomachine equivalent. There is no shortcut. Every loop you see was placed byhand, one at a time.
