This lot uniquely connects classic Hollywood cinema with 1960s pop-culture history: Dion McGregor is the world-renowned mid-century sleep-talker, lyricist, and insatiable collector of high-camp and classic studio imagery, as well as that he spent decades cataloging and collecting film history, his ownership stamp frequently surfaces on specific types of cinematic items:
Vintage Movie Posters & Stills: McGregor worked for a time inventorying massive collections of old movie posters and spent years working at The Memory Shop, a legendary vintage movie memorabilia store in New York City. He routinely stamped the backs of his own vintage 8x10 black-and-white promotional stills and lobby cards. Research and Reference Materials: Later in life, while living in Beverly Hills, he and his partner spent hours combing through the archives of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
They compiled extensive research files to write a massive, multi-volume film reference
What is Included in This 11-Piece Archive: x 3 King Solomon\'s Mines (1937 - Gaumont-British) Photos with one being a lobby cards. (X2 are stamped with Dion McGregor personal collection stamp) Featuring Anna Lee, Roland Young, John Loader, Paul Robeson, Cedric Hardwicke. Aling with the stamps one stamp says Collectible Book Store Hollywood and some notes). While the ones that are stamped show authentic photos, I am not sure on the others. They are all vintage but the lobby card is on photo paper, so are most likely vintage copy.
X3 1950 black and white photos from King Solomon\'s Mines. These are vintage photos with no stamps on themselves I am unsure if they are vintage copies.
X 5 1959 Watusi Lobby Cards: These are colored and showing different scenes from the movie. Featuring George Montgomery, Taina Elg, and David Faralo. These are printed promotional caption block intact along the lower bottom, featuring the property of the National Screen Service Corp. Copyright 1959 labled 59/65, x 3 photos of King Solomon\'s Mines (1950 - MGM)( e official 1959 theatrical sequel, featuring Stewart Granger, Deborah Kerr and Richard Carlson. These are black and white photos. One has the movie name and date handwritten on the back. Not sure if these are original or copies. They are all vintage but the lobby card is on photo paper so most likely a vintage copy.
All pieces are in good, vintage condition. Normal, age-appropriate wear including minor corner curling, light edge smudging, and surface handling marks as expected with studio press material of this era. Reverse sides has some marks, stains and one corner tear.
