Come to Germany by Max Eschle 1936 Vintage Travel Poster Reproduction
About this poster:
This vintage travel poster, created by artist Max Eschle, presents a powerful invitation to \"Come to Germany.\" The artwork is defined by its strong Art Deco style, featuring a dramatic contrast between the golden-hued central figure and the cool blue tones of the background. The design employs sharp angles and bold shading to create a monumental feel. The central focus is a depiction of the Bamberg Horseman, a celebrated 13th-century sculpture, symbolizing Germany\'s deep historical roots and artistic heritage.
The poster’s message is a broad appeal to tourists, showcasing the variety of experiences Germany offers. Surrounding the heroic central statue is a montage of famous German landmarks. This collage includes the spires of the Cologne Cathedral, Munich\'s Frauenkirche, and Berlin\'s Brandenburg Gate, alongside romantic castles and medieval towns set against an alpine backdrop. This combination of images was intended to portray Germany as a nation rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.
Published in the 1930s by the Reichsbahnzentrale für den Deutschen Reiseverkehr (Reich Central Office for German Tourism), this poster was part of a concerted campaign to boost tourism. The Bamberg Horseman (Bamberger Reiter) is an iconic piece of German Gothic sculpture located in the Bamberg Cathedral. Its identity is unknown, but it is often associated with German nobility and chivalry, making it a powerful symbol of national pride and history used to attract visitors during the interwar period.
Our vintage-style travel posters capture the timeless spirit of adventure and nostalgia. This classic piece embodies the allure of bygone eras and invites you to explore the world as it once was.
