A late nineteenth-century household reference work covering a wide range of practical subjects related to domestic life. The book includes material on household management, domestic cookery, home furnishing and decoration, polite deportment, emergencies in the home, care of children, games and amusements, along with many general household hints. It was intended as a practical all-in-one manual for managing the daily responsibilities of running a household. Illustrated throughout with in-text illustrations and several colored plates.
Bound in deep olive green cloth with ornate black and gold embossed decoration to the front cover and a black and gilt embossed title to the spine. The front board bears the author’s name in gilt. The boards have beveled edges and the text block retains gilt edges on all sides.
It is in Very Good condition. The binding shows heavy shelf wear, most noticeable at the tail cap, with bumped and rubbed corners. There is some looseness in the interior gutters but they remain fully intact. There is a previous owner’s inscription dated May 9th, ’71. The pages remain fairly clean overall. Very Good.
