An original mid-century Surrealist gouache painting, signed Fedus, and dated 1968 in both lower corners. This striking panoramic composition presents a dreamlike futurist cityscape — shadowed metaphysical towers, splayed piers and biomorphic domes, Gothic-arched viaducts recalling the Brooklyn Bridge, fluttering pennants, and a whimsical fish-eyed dart streaking across a pale sky. The visual vocabulary nods to Giorgio de Chirico’s metaphysical architecture and Antonio Sant’Elia’s Futurist vision, executed in a confident palette of slate blues, greys, and warm cream.
Hand-painted in gouache (with tempera-like body) on board. The unusual long horizontal format makes it a natural over-mantel, over-door, or hallway statement piece. Its graphic strength reads well from across a room and photographs beautifully.ik
