Crocus Sativus is positively ravishing with creamy lilac flowers featuring dark purple veining and red stamens that contrast beautifully against the glorious orange anthers. The blossoms are born amidst attractive grass-like foliage of slender, dark green leaves with a skinny central silver stripe.Like many other Crocuses, it is perfect for naturalizing and looks spectacular in vast, sweeping masses. Alternatively, it can also be grown in pots or containers for an up-close look at the delicate blooms. The dried stamen of Crocus Sativus, or Saffron, is a deep red spice used to flavor various ethnic dishes. While this spice can be rather expensive, you can "harvest" your own in less than a minute and indulge in its gourmet gusto. Enjoy!
