Crucial MX500 1TB SATA SSD:reports 131% life used, which is aknown firmware bug; the real figure is about 29%
Read this part first, because CrystalDiskInfo is going to alarmyou. This drive's SMART attribute 202 reports 131% of ratedlife used. That number is impossible. A drive cannot use more than 100% of its life andkeep working normally. It is a known reporting bug in theM3CR023 firmware this drive is running. The attribute rolls over and reports nonsense. It is not ameasurement of damage.
The cross-check is the write total, which the same firmware recordscorrectly. 102.7 TB written against a 360 TBW rating is about29% of the drive's rated endurance. That is what this drive hasactually done. 29% is real wear on a drive with a lot of hours. It is nothing like the131% the attribute displays.
If you want sane reporting, Crucial's M3CR046 firmware update isfree and fixes the attribute. Micron distributes it through theCrucial Storage Executive tool and as a bootable image. I have left this drive on M3CR023 so you can read the original numbersyourself.

About the 48,135 power-on hours
That is about five and a half years of continuous power, and it is high.Hours measure how long a drive was switched on; wear measures how much of itslife is gone. This one did both: it ran a long time and wrote a fair amount. What it did not do is accumulate a single reallocated, pending, oruncorrectable sector, and those are the counts that move when flash actuallystarts failing. All three are zero.
What is wrong with it
- The 131% reporting bug above. Cosmetic to the data, not to the drive, but you will see it and you should know why.
- Minor tape residue on the top of the case. Visible in the photos. No effect on function.
- No box. Drive only.
- About 29% of rated endurance is gone. This is a well-used drive priced as one.
Condition and packing
Used, out of a home server, and securely erased with ATA SecureErase before it was listed. Drive only, no box, packedto survive the trip.

Two things to know before you compare. This was taken before the ATA SecureErase, so hours and power cycles will be slightly ahead of these when you plug itin. And the machine has been decommissioned, so nothing newer can be pulled.
