Handsome two volume set with gilt lettering, decoration, and top page edge. Profusely illustrated with black & white and color plates. Wear to cover edges and spine ends. Pages in excellent condition overall with some spots here and there and a penned page reference on Volume 1\'s title page. A very nice set.
Daniel Hudson Burnham [1846 - 1912] was an American architect and urban designer. He was the Director of Works for the World\'s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Burnham took a leading role in the creation of master plans for the development of a number of cities, including Chicago, Manila and downtown Washington, D.C. He also designed several famous buildings, including the Flatiron Building in New York City, Union Station in Washington D.C., the Continental Trust Company Building tower skyscraper in Baltimore (now One Calvert Plaza), and a number of notable skyscrapers in Chicago.Burnham was a contemporary and associate of Theodore Thomas, Charles F. McKim, Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Frederick Law Olmsted. The books deal with both architectural and biographical aspects.
