This decorative antique french figural mantel clock by Japy Freres c1880 has a beautifully detailed brass framework with scrolling foliage and neo-classical borders. It has lion mask side decor and stands on lions paw feet. The black dial is in lovely condition and has an inner gilt-brass medallion and gilt roman numerals. The ornate cast metal figure on the case has a black patina and depicts a soldier with features of a medieval knight, it has detailed relief work on the chest armour and lions head motifs on the knee guards and a dragon plumed helmet. He holds a sword over his shoulder with a gold toned blade.The double fusee 8-day movement has been cleaned and serviced and keeps perfect time chiming on the hour and the half hour.
