Plate 18 3/4 x 9 3/8\". Signed in pencil LR under platemark; publisher\'s US address along upper left plate margin, it\'s London address upper right plate margin. Excellent condition, beautifully printed. A monumental work, and one of his largest pieces. Most likely never framed.

\"Etcher and painter specializing in architectural and landscape subjects. Worked for a while as a cabinet maker before becoming a self-taught artist.Born in Bristol in 1884. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and elsewhere. A member of the Royal West of England Academy. He travelled widely and produced etchings of architectural subjects in France, Italy, Spain, Belguim and Holland as well as British cities and many of the west country and his native Bristol. Frost and Read produced much of his work. Lived in Portishead, Bristol and later in Cornwall. The City Art Gallery, Bristol, holds his work.\" Christian Klackner was an important print publisher and gallery owner in the late 19th early 20th C, issuing work by, among others, Winslow Homer, Edward Sharland, and Armand Mathey Doret. He published an important book on prints: \"Proofs and prints, engravings and etchings; how they are made, their grades, qualities and values, and how to select them\" (1889).
