EXTREMELY RARE 1790 STUNNING SIGNED TURNER CHERUBS & GOAT PITCHER PEARLWARE MINT For Sale

Here we have a stunning and extremelyrare example of late 18th-century English craftsmanship, this pitcher was made in1790 by John Turner, one of the foremost Staffordshire potters and acontemporary—and occasional rival—of Josiah Wedgwood. Turner earned areputation for his dry-bodied creamware\'s, and for the extraordinary quality ofhis sprig-molded ornamentation. The jug is an elegantly conceived cream-bodiedstoneware pitcher with a turned dark brown glazed reeded ring neck. Below this is a raised grape vine border. Thispitcher features 3 cherubs pulling a goat followed by a 4th cherub carryinga large bunch of grapes on his shoulder.Below the cherubs and trees is an engine turned border above the foot. The handle terminates in Turner’s distinctiveacanthus-leaf motif, combining elegance with strength. The underside of the pitcher is impressed “TURNER.”Measuring 9” in height this pitchersurvives in its original mint condition with no damage or repairs and thepitcher rings like a bell when you tap the rim.
