Early 20th Century Pieter Bruegel Maritime Intaglio Restrike Prints - Pair - Van Gelder Zonen Watermark-Description: For your consideration is an exceptional, matching pair of antique intaglio maritime restrikes after the iconic Renaissance masterworks of Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1525–1569). Armed Three-Master Anchored Near a City (Man of War before a Town)Watermark & Paper: Features the prominent, historic VAN GELDER ZONEN watermark. The stylized “Zonen” text runs through the lower margin on one of the prints (clearly visible when backlit, as shown in the listing photos). On the second print, the watermark was trimmed during a previous historic framing. The prints are on premium, high-quality Dutch laid paper with a smooth, stiff, and crisp texture. Light, uniform vertical chain lines are visible across the sheets, spaced precisely 1 1/8” (28 mm) apart. See photos.Printing Method and Plate Marks: These are true press-pulled intaglio impressions. The rich, dark lines retain their authentic structural depth—distinct ink ridges can be clearly felt on the surface, and genuine printing indentations are visible on the verso. Distinct, deeply indented plate-mark perimeters are pressed firmly into the face of the sheets, with corresponding structural embossing visible on the reverse side.
