Black-and-white photographic print after Eugène Atget (French, 1857–1927), depicting a Paris shop window filled with elegantly dressed male tailor’s mannequins and overlapping reflections of the surrounding street and architecture.
A handwritten gallery label on the reverse identifies the photographer as “Eugene Atget,” the subject as “Shop Window: Tailor Dummies,” and the medium as a silver print. The label is additionally inscribed “Lynn Gallery.”
Atget extensively documented the streets, storefronts, architecture, and changing urban environment of Paris during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This image is a documented Atget composition generally dated circa 1910, titled Shop Window, Tailor Dummies.
Prints of Eugène Atget\'s photographs are signed by Berenice Abbott because she personally printed them from his original glass-plate negatives after his death.Since Atget passed away in 1927 without signing the vast majority of his own documentary work, Abbott\'s signature serves as a formal authentication of the print\'s origin and her role as the master printmaker.
Presented under glass with a wide cream mat in a silver-tone frame.
