Exciting new book on solving the mystery on the Union dead from the Battle of Olustee, Florida. The battle was fought on February 20, 1864 in the pine woods of North Florida in Baker County. The battle was a clear cut victory for troops under Confederate General Joseph Finegan with Federal Troops under Union General Truman Seymour suffering casualties of 203 killed 1152 wounded 506 missing. The losses were a considerably high percentage for the 5600 Union troops involved. The well written book by Olustee historian Don Hillhouse corrects many of the myths and misinformation that has been been written recently. After 5 trips to the National Archives Don was able to find the true story and answer many of the questions before now hidden in the National Archives. Among the dead were colored troops in the 8th US Colored Infantry, the 54th Massachusetts of the movie Glory fame and the 35th USCT. Other regiments involved were the 115th New York, 47th New York, 48th New York, 1st New York Engineers, 7th Connecticut, 7th New Hampshire 40th Massachusetts, 4th Massachusetts Cavalry 1ST US Artillery, 3rd Rhode Island Heavy Artillery and the 3rd US Artillery.
