Fridtjof Nansen In Northern Mists 1911 2-Vol Set Arctic Exploration Complete For Sale

Original 1911 complete two-volume set of Fridtjof Nansen's monumental work on early Arctic exploration, translated by Arthur G. Chater. Bound in the original navy blue publisher's cloth featuring the striking, iconic gilt sunrise-over-the-sea illustration on the front boards. Both volumes feature gorgeous, clean color frontispieces tipped-in on thin paper within printed block borders, complete with all text, maps, and accompanying plates.

Condition Details:

• Volume 1: Presents nicely overall with clear, bright gilt lettering and spine artwork. Interior text pages are exceptionally clean with crisp illustrations, though the endpapers are toned and the tissue guards in poor conditon. Hinge paper cracking present, along with water-spotted/faded top edges.

• Binding is structurally intact both volumes, but loosening.

• Volume 2:Clear gilt sunrise and lettering on the front cover as Vol. 1. Suffers from cosmetic water damage to the spine strip, rendering the spine title unreadable. Hinge paper cracking present, along with water-spotted/faded top edges. Interior pages remain clean and bright with toned endpapers.

• Edges: Traditional rough-cut (deckle) edges for and foot. Top edges are the original blue with spots of water damage
