McDonnell Douglas MD-88, serial number 49714, operated by Delta Air Lines as N925DL. The aircraft formed part of Delta\'s enormous MD-88 fleet, which became a defining sight at the airline\'s Atlanta hub and throughout the southeastern United States. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines, N925DL operated short and medium haul domestic services for decades. Delta\'s MD-88s were valued for their rugged reliability and relatively high capacity but became increasingly costly compared with newer narrowbodies. The airline retired its final MD-88 aircraft in June 2020, bringing an end to more than three decades of intensive service with the type.
McDonnell Douglas MD-88 Designed as a stretched and modified DC-9, the MD-80 was first flown on October 18th, 1979.
