2010-2014 V6 Camaro Catch Can Installation Instructions
GM’s V6 is very possibly one of the worst engines for oil ingestion through vacuum lines routed through the intake manifold. This design dumps oil directly into your intake side air charge.
Ingesting oil this way creates poor combustion chamber firing and will result in dark plugs and a less responsive / efficient engine operation. Contributing to reduced gas mileage and performance. Worst of all it can create pre-ignition that will lead to premature engine wear and or failure.
These pictures here will guide you through a very simple install. The first step is to remove the engine cover from the top of your intake and locate the vacuum line you will be replacing. It’s the main vacuum line located top dead center on the manifold. Follow it back towards the firewall then to the passenger side valve cover connection.
You will cut the plastic tube then slip the new hose over the inner plastic tube making sure it slides over at least an inch of the factory tube. You can use water with dish soap to lubricate the hoses. This will make it easier to install and then the ends will dry and they will stay secure. No clamps are needed.
Now you will route both hoses from the manifold to your catch can location.
Front mount: The catch can mounts on the front engine cover stud. Just remove the stud and place the catch can mount under it then reinstall the stud and bolt it back in place.
Optional: The catch can be mounted on the driver’s side using the stud that the stock air box used.
Note: For optimal performance and longevity you should drain the catch can with every oil change. The oil and trash collected always get thrown away. Never reuse catch can contents. Discard contents with common sense and you are all done.
