George Washington Portrait Antique 1782 Engraving Reproduction American History For Sale

This is a decorative reproduction, likely from the late-19th or early-20th century, of an engraving of George Washington. The original piece is titled \"His Excellency George Washington, Esq-r., General and Commander in Chief of the Allied Armies, Supporting the Independence of America,\" and it was made on March 26, 1782. An example of the original is held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The original engraver is John Norman (American (born England), ca. 1748-1817, Boston, Mass.). He engraved it after a pastel by Benjamin Blyth (American, Salem, Mass. 1746-1811 Zanesville, Ohio), who did his pastel after Charles Willson Peale (American, Chester, Maryland 1741-1827, Philadelphia, Penn.)
